Progress Periods

Progress Periods

Progress periods in Empower are slightly different than what you may be used to compared to a traditional SIS reporting period.

In Empower, a progress period is ONLY a period of time where Empower searches for any overall scores that have changed during that period.

For example, a progress period encompassing August 15 through October 1 (typical quarter 1) will report anything that has an overall score that has either a) been newly scored, or b) changed score from a prior progress period.

A subsequent progress period of October 2 through December 31 will only select NEW scores or scores that have changed since the first period.

Many of our schools choose to ignore these artificial periods of time, as they do not properly reflect what a learner has learned during a school year. They will only setup one progress period for the year, such as "2023-2024" that encompasses the first day of school to the last (or sometimes extending that a week or two so teachers can continue to put in evidence/overall scores until they leave for the summer). In this case, all scores will always be updated and correct without worrying whether or not the scores fell into the correct progress period.

Setting up progress periods

In order to set up a progress period, go to the menu and select "Progress Period".

Next, select "Create a New Progress Period".

These start/end dates can be changed at any time, and are not beholden to any sort of time period in your SIS. Remember, Empower searches for scores within the time period you select.
