Learning Manager

The Learning Manager

The Learning Manager tool is based on the premise that learning is done sequentially, either in a playlist or in a gradebook (a set of standards).

This tool helps a teacher quickly identify where learners are in their learning, assign activities appropriate for their immediate need, and target every learner in their class/group.

Start from the gradebook, and click "Launch Learning Manager".

There are two options to sort by: playlist and gradebook.

Gradebook slider

The gradebook slider sorts the scales by the order they are listed in the gradebook (this order is adjustable by the teacher - just drag-and-drop!).

The teacher can click on the standard they want to filter on, and a list of activities will pop up on the right side of the screen.

The list of activities entails all activities that have been currently assigned to the class/group, including activities in playlists AND stand-alone activities.

Teachers can also create their own activities from this screen, as seen below.

These newly-assigned activities will appear in the "Next Up" section for the learner if it is in an existing playlist, and in the "classroom activities" section of their homepage if it is a newly created activity or a stand-alone activity.

Some other things to know about the Learning Manager:

You can quickly see the evidence for any individual learners, as shown below.

It is also easy to filter learners by different scoring options.

As seen above, there are three options to sort the learners.

First, current need (this is the default).

Second, not mastered.

Third, not scored. This will show only learners that have yet to gather any evidence on the scale.

Playlist slider

Another way to sort the learners is to change the slider from "Gradebook" to "Playlists".

The functions in the playlist slider are exactly the same as above in the gradebook slider.

In addition, there is a different set of filters for the playlist side of the Learning Manager.

Here is the logic of Playlist Side part of the Learning Manager

1) First we check if it is skipped for that particular item. If it is skipped, we assign "Skipped" label, else we will check next condition.
2) Then we will check if earned score is greater or equal of goal score. If it is, then we will assign "Met Goals"label, else we will check next condition.
3) Then we will check if item is scored and earned score is below the Goal score, then we will assign label "Goal Not Met", else we will check next condition.
4) Then we will check if item is submitted and not reviewed yet, then we will assign "Turned In" label, else we will check next condition.
5) Then we will check if items grade percentage is 0 then we will assign "In Progress" label (IP).

We are using customized labels for the grades in the playlist side of the Learning Manager. Learners show an "IP" score who either a) do not have a score, b) have a score of 0, or c) have a score of NM on a quiz.

The above is only for the Playlist side of the Learning Manager.
