The Gradebook Filter is used on the evidence side of the grade book. It was designed for a couple of reasons: 1) to help teachers view only the activities they want to see (as the evidence side of the grade book can become very large and overwhelming), and 2) to help loading times for large gradebooks.
The filter has many options, including filters by Title (this is the default), Assign/Due Date ranges, Standard, Demographics, and (coming soon) Assign Date and Due Date.
The filter is also "sticky", meaning it will remain as the active filter for that grade book until the teacher decides to make any changes. The filter will be presented any time the teacher opens the evidence side of a grade book, and if a filter has been previously selected, there will be a notation at the bottom of the grade book that the "last filter is still active". Teachers only need to click "apply filter" to view the gradebook, OR make any changes to their view.
Q: Why would I use this filter?
A: This filter gives an exact view of whatever a teacher wants to see at any one moment. Instead of scrolling through all activities and quizzes that have been assigned, a teacher can narrow down to just a set of activities, see only activities aligned to a selection of standards, or even only activities assigned in the last two weeks. The possibilities are endless!

Answer: They don't. It requires a shift in how we think about our pedagogy. As scientists say, "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." As a student, if I don't turn in my Shakespeare Essay, does that mean I am bad at English? No. It means ...
